Hey everyone! It's been a crazy week, but I wanted to get something out, so here it is!
TL:DR - Got some character art and level designs done, worked a little more on the GDD and solidified content for additional stages.
Below is the full story:
Update - Unfortunately, I don't have too much to report this week. I did get some fun stuff done however! To start, character art for all of the Noble Gasses in the game have been started. Some I really like the first couple designs of, and some have already had multiple revisions. I'm not exactly an artist either, so doing this art by hand is rather difficult... I'm also trying to write this without giving too much of the story away, so if you're wanting details on that one it will have to wait. If you are curious about who the Noble Gasses are though, it's Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton, Xenon, and Radon.
The next major thing that I did was work on some of the layouts of the levels for these characters. They aren't the final designs, but it's a start, and I'm really happy with getting something done on them. It also allowed me to start thinking about how I want to do the mechanics for the levels, which I have to say is a breath of fresh air from having to do spriting on the Library... I don't want to know how many total sprites there are on that level, and doing them by hand so it doesn't look *too* repeated has been the time consuming part.
The last major thing that I managed to do was get some of the hidden level characters into the GDD. These hidden level characters are going to be much different than the normal elements from the rest of the game. What I mean by that is they're molecules, such as water, salt, etc. The tricky part about all of this is I'm not sure how weapons are working quite yet. That's going to be in a future update once things are a bit further along.
What's Next - I think since The Library has me so burnt out from spriting, I'm going to try and work on starting the next few levels and see what happens. I'm hoping this will allow me to get ahead in a couple spots and get scene loading working properly. There are also a couple of backend systems that need to be implemented as well, and being able to code is what's brought me the most joy out of this project so far.
Hopefully that sums everything up, and thanks if you've made it this far!
Catch ya next time!
